There’s a certain hour in a Sacramento summer.
Early. Before the heat settles in.
The windows are open, the coffee’s on, and the whole house feels a little softer in that golden light.
That’s the hour that makes us want to tend to our homes. Not renovate. Not overhaul. Just… refresh. Little touches that make the place feel new again without a single contractor or a big budget.
So we pulled together a handful of our favorite summer home refresh ideas — the easy, do-it-in-a-weekend kind. Pour something cold. Open a window. Let’s wander through it together. ☕️
Start with the light

Before you buy a single thing — just open the windows.
There’s something about summer light that no lamp can replicate. So we let it in early, close things up before the heat, and swap heavy winter drapes for something breezy. Linen. Gauzy cotton. Anything that lifts a little when the morning air moves through.
It’s the smallest change. And honestly? It might be the one you feel the most.
Let a little color in
If your home leaned all-beige through the cooler months, summer is the season to warm it up.
We’re not talking about repainting a whole room. Just a little color, in the right places. A butter-yellow throw. A stack of ocean-blue books. A bowl of lemons on the counter that somehow makes the whole kitchen feel brighter.
Color trends this year are leaning warm and happy — soft yellows, garden greens, that easy blue you’d find on the coast. But the trick isn’t chasing a trend. It’s finding the one or two shades that make you happy when you walk in.

Bring a little of the outside in

Summer is basically an invitation to fill your home with green.
A big, leafy plant in the corner — an olive tree, a fiddle leaf, something with a little presence. Fresh flowers on the counter from a weekend farmers market. Herbs on the windowsill you can actually cook with.
We’re big believers that a home should feel alive. And nothing does that faster — or cheaper — than a few things that grow.
Make yourself a slow-morning corner
This one’s less about decor and more about how a home feels.
Pick a corner. A chair by the window, the end of the kitchen counter, a little spot on the porch. And make it yours. The coffee setup. The candle. The book you keep meaning to finish.
Because summer moves slower — or it should. And a home that gives you one quiet place to sit with your coffee before the day starts is a home that’s working for you.
Trust us. As two working moms, this is the corner we protect the most. 🤍

Give your front porch a summer moment

We couldn’t help ourselves — a little real estate heart snuck in here.
Your front porch is the first hello. The first impression of the whole home. And summer is the easiest season to give it a little love.
A fresh doormat. A pair of potted plants flanking the door. A new coat of paint on tired house numbers. A wreath, a lantern, a chair that says stay a while.
None of it is expensive. All of it makes the walk up to your door feel a little more like coming home. And if you ever are thinking about selling down the road — well, curb appeal starts right here, long before the sign goes in the yard. But that’s a conversation for whenever you’re ready. No rush. 😉
The whole point
None of this has to happen at once.
Pick one thing. Do it this weekend. Then sit in the results with something cold in your hand and the windows open.
Because a home isn’t a project to finish — it’s a place to live. And a few small, intentional touches can make the one you’re in feel brand new, right in the middle of summer.
That’s the whole idea. Leave everything a little better than we found it — our homes included. 🌿
If you try one of these, we’d love to see it. Tag us, message us, send us a photo of your porch. We’re always up for a little summer home talk over coffee.
Here’s to slow mornings and open windows.
